On March 12th, OSHA announced in a press release the launch of a national emphasis program (NEP) that will focus on companies that put workers at risk for contracting COVID-19.

The program will strive to reduce or eliminate COVID-19 exposure for workers in companies where risks are high and to protect workers concerned their employer is failing to protect them from risk of exposure. It also prioritizes focus on employers who retaliate against workers for complaints about unhealthy working conditions and other rights protected by federal law.

The program could remain in effect for one year until March 12, 2022. State OSHA plans are encouraged, but not required, to adopt this NEP.
