In 1994, #10 Dan Coulter played for Hartselle High School on the winning team who snagged the Alabama state men’s basketball championship that year. What was experienced on the court—a tireless work ethic, team mentality, and disciplined strategy—propelled #10 to winning then, and has influenced the way this champion works day in and day out on behalf of our clients.
After a successful high school basketball career, Dan went on to graduate from The University of Alabama with a finance degree and marry his Decatur sweetheart. In 2001, his professional career began in banking at First American where he practiced commercial banking serving Hartselle and Decatur businesses.
In 2015, Valent was fortunate to bring Dan on board with our insurance agency to work with our Decatur and North Alabama clients. Dan is passionate about serving Decatur and businesses—both small and large.
“Growing up in small cities, you find that local businesses desire to partner with someone in their community while not compromising on expertise or service,” Dan said. “I’m proud that our team can provide that sense of local service combined with a talented back office and specialists such as loss control and in-house claims—specializations that are often not available in communities our size. It gives me great pleasure to bring both to our business community.”
“With Decatur’s close proximity to the Huntsville area, the increase in industry on the River such as 3M and Nucor, and the need for subcontractors and talent to fuel the technology, industrial, mechanical and electrical space, Decatur sits at a unique intersection between community and industry,” Dan continued. “When we design insurance programs for our clients that are specific to their business and technically correct, we know that what we’re doing is not only contributing to the success of the business, but also supporting our larger economy for the long-haul.”
Providing correct coverage is something the team is focused on, and that dedication came from Dan’s insurance mentor and long-time Decatur agent, Joe Podlesny.
“I thank Joe everyday for teaching me how to be a great service provider who is also technically sound” Dan reflected. “He sent me home with policies daily and then grilled me with questions the next day. Joe was one of the best, and I’m honored to have learned from the best.”
Dan is very involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Decatur where he serves as a Board Member. He’s also a Board Member for the Morgan County Hall of Fame. His love for sports remains, but not more than his love for his family. He has a daughter and son who make him incredibly proud.
